Portmarnock Resort & Jameson Golf Links is marking its 30th anniversary with a significant new investment programme, designed to further enhance the guest experience.
At the heart of the resort is the former home of the Jameson whiskey family, who built the original house and adjoining golf course in the 1850s.
Today, the property still works hard to reflect that heritage, with features including the popular Jameson Bar paying tribute to its original owners.
Creating another special connection to its founding family, three bedrooms within the original Jameson home have been transformed into guest accommodation.
The bedrooms offer carefully retained period features, including fireplaces and furniture, and the premium Jameson deluxe rooms have been authentically designed to reflect their historic character.
“For 30 years, Portmarnock Resort has offered guests a very special experience,” says William Kirby, general manager.
“Its setting on the famous Velvet Strand beach, just a short journey from Dublin, makes it the ideal place to get away from it all.
“The Jameson family recognised that almost 180 years ago, choosing to base themselves here while continuing to manage the distillery in Dublin – the best of both worlds.”
Kirby added, “While their family home has evolved significantly into the resort we offer today, at its heart it remains a place to rest, recharge, and enjoy an exceptional round of golf.
“It is wonderful to be able to open some of their original bedrooms as stunning new guest accommodation.”
Further enhancements are also under way at Portmarnock Resort.
Planning permission has now been granted for a new outdoor heated pool, with work due to begin shortly.
The 10m x 5m pool will be available exclusively to hotel guests throughout the year, and the new wellness area will include sauna and steam rooms.
There has also been a continued investment in the golf course, including specialist machinery and a full refurbishment of the on-site golf shop, which now offers a broader range of golf-related items.
The 18-hole, par-72 course, originally designed by Bernhard Langer and Stan Eby, enjoys spectacular views of the Irish coastline.
It was redesigned in 2023 and rebranded from Portmarnock Links to Jameson Golf Links.
In addition, meeting and event spaces across the hotel have been updated and refreshed, with new AV equipment installed throughout.
This follows the full refurbishment of the hotel’s main dining space, the Seaview, in 2025.
“With the introduction of the outdoor swimming pool and continued investment in our championship golf course, we are constantly striving to deliver the very best experience for our guests,” said Kirby.
“Especially when so many do us the honour of returning time and again, it is important that we continue to keep things fresh.”
